Funding and disclosure

How the desk is funded

This page sets out how the desk pays for itself, which links are paid and which are not, and what the desk does and does not say about its advertising partner.

No. 1Where the money comes from

The desk is an independent visitor's guide. It is not a casino, it takes no bets and it holds no accounts.

To cover its costs, the home page carries buttons marked Ad. Those buttons lead to the website of an online casino partner. When a reader follows one of them, the partner may pay the desk a commission.

This is a commercial arrangement, and the partner may change from time to time.

No. 2About the advertising partner

The partner is not PlayNow. It is not run by the province or by BCLC. The desk makes no claim about the partner's licensing or legal status.

You may wish to know the official position. The Government of British Columbia says PlayNow.com is the only legal online gambling site in B.C. PlayNow is BCLC's own online site. Further detail is on Online casinos in BC.

Inner pages of the desk, including this one, carry no advertising.

No. 3What is not paid for

  • Links to River Rock Casino Resort and the other venues the desk describes are not paid.
  • Links to PlayNow, BCLC and gov.bc.ca are not paid.
  • Links to support services, such as Gambling Support BC and GameSense, are not paid.
  • No venue pays for coverage, placement or the wording of any page.

How information is chosen, sourced and checked is described in Desk standards.

No. 4A note for readers

Gambling, whether at a venue or online, is for adults aged 19 and older in British Columbia.

If you would like to talk with someone about gambling, your own or a family member's, Gambling Support BC offers a free helpline, open 24/7, at 1-888-795-6111. Other options are listed on Support services.

Is the advertising partner licensed in British Columbia?
The desk makes no claim about the partner's licensing or legal status. The province says PlayNow.com is the only legal online gambling site in B.C., and the partner is not PlayNow.
